I’m a reject!
The AIGA held a competition that pit the best of the worst logos against each other. The objective was to air out the rejected logos that were tossed out by clients. I was motivated by both my abundance of rejected logos and by the cheap price tag ($5 each!) to submit three of my own stinkers.
While I did enjoy seeing my work in a gallery along with my contemporaries, I was a bit thrown off by the ego and pompous attitude that was lingering around in the room. Perhaps the featured designers should be asking themselves the same thing I did after thinking about the exhibit: should I really be proud of the work displayed here?
Granted, the work is funny (among my favorites, a mosquito straddling a DNA strand as a logo for an Infectious Disease research company), but are they really objects of pride? I even had the unsettling feeling that some may have created the logos the night before in an effort to purposely be a funny entry.
This may very well be the first and last time my work is displayed in a gallery. Oh well, I can do without the hassle and an award would just take up too much desk space.
